Summer 2007
Pass It On (PDF Doc 2.4MB, requires adobe acrobat reader) For their last summer project, participants from A.C.T.I.O.N.'s Pioneer group created a newsletter to raise awareness about important issues in their communities such as the environment, military recruitment tactics, health care, and education.
The Key (YouTube video - requires Flash)
Participants from A.C.T.I.O.N.’s Pioneer group created a documentary during the spring of 2007 to advocate for Alternative to Detention programs (ATD's) over the incarceration of youth who are convicted of non-violent crimes. The documentary was screened at the Bronx's First Annual Youth Film Festival that the filmmakers organized.

Benefits Of Learning (YouTube video - requires Flash) For their 3rd year project a small group of Action Pioneers decided to
partner with the Children's Aid Society's Early Childhood Program in the
Bronx. After an extensive evaluation process that included surveys, focus
groups, and conversations with the organization's staff, they created this
orientation video to introduce parents to the center and the importance of
early childhood development and parent involvement.

Gulf Slideshow (YouTube video - requires Flash)
A.C.T.I.O.N.'s year three, eleventh grade, participants worked with children and youth in the Gulf Coast and explored themes of rebuilding after Hurricane Katrina. In New Orleans, the Pioneers worked at an arts-focused day camp and led workshops on activism and community development for kids ages 8-16. In Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, one of the region's hardest hit towns, the Pioneers collaborated with Bay St. Louis High School students on art projects about rebuilding their communities. They interviewed local youth and documented places of importance to them. The final celebration of the students' artwork included a dedication of shields based on Native American ritual.

Past Projects
Thebes Street (YouTube video - requires Flash)
This video is a compilation of footage of Thebes Street, a street theatre piece created and performed by the Pioneer Theatre Ensemble. The piece deals with issues of community and gentrification and is based on the play Antigone. The group performed Thebes Street around the Bronx community including the Pregones Theatre Festival in the summer of 2005.

Sex in the Media Public Actions (YouTube video - requires Flash)
For their year-long project, participants of the Rebel group choose to address the issue of “Sex in the Media.” They created t-shirts and a public action to bring awareness about the exploitation of sex in the music lyrics we listen to. The public actions included step, poetry, tableau and rapping. The actions were performed around Manhattan and the Bronx. This is short documentary about the process of creating the public actions.
Summer 2006
A.C.T.I.O.N.'s year two, tenth grade, participants spent two weeks at Vassar College working with video, poetry, theater and visual arts to explore the theme of consumption, in the context of teen spending habits, waste production, fast food, and media in the United States as well as its effect throughout the world.
